Welcome to Fairway and Footpath Apartments, a unique coastal getaway set within one of Ardglass’s most iconic buildings. Located at 1 Castle Place, this handsome Georgian property was once home to the well-known Moore’s Castle Hotel — a grand lodging house with deep roots in the village’s maritime past.
We purchased 1 Castle Place with the goal of creating a welcoming space where guests could relax, recharge, and enjoy all that Ardglass has to offer — from world-class golf to cliff walks and harbour views. Rather than undertaking a full renovation, we were fortunate to acquire the building already converted into four characterful holiday apartments, each comfortably sleeping up to six guests.
We saw the potential immediately — not just in the location, but in the soul of the place. Our focus has been on enhancing the guest experience while honouring the building’s unique history and charm.
The building once operated as Moore’s Castle Hotel, a prominent part of village life during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It stood proudly overlooking Castle Place — a central square just steps from the harbour — and served as a key stop for visitors, traders, and holidaymakers during Ardglass’s years as a bustling port town.
Many of the building’s original features remain: large sash windows, Georgian doorways, and solid, sea-facing walls that have stood the test of time.
Below is a rare street scene from the early 1900s, capturing everyday life in Castle Place with the hotel visible on the left, a vintage motorcar in the road, and locals gathering in front of the tea house across the square.
Today, 1 Castle Place begins a new chapter as Fairway and Footpath Apartments — a place where travellers can stay in comfort while surrounded by the stories of Ardglass’s past. Each apartment offers a perfect blend of charm and convenience, with space for families, friends, golfers, and walkers to enjoy the beautiful Lecale coast.
We’re proud to offer guests the chance to stay in such a storied spot, where the echo of horse hooves and harbour bells once rang — and where history and hospitality now meet.
